Crozet Volunteer Fire Department is sad to report the passing of
CVFD Lifetime member and former CVFD Chief Bubba Baber. Bubba passed away
on the morning of August 1, 2014 after fighting a courageous battle with

Robert Charles “Bubba” Baber, age 44, of Crozet died on Friday, August 1, 2014
at a local hospital. Born in Charlottesville on February 18, 1970 he was the
son of Fay Funk Baber and the late Roger L. Baber, Sr. Bubba is survived by his
loving wife of 23 years Tracey E. Baber; his son, Jacob L. Baber and his
fiancée Amanda Collins; brother, Roger L. Baber, Jr.; sister, Lisa Jones;
grandfather, Berlin Funk; mother and father-in-law, David and Joan Anderson;
sister-in-law; Mary Mason; brothers-in law; Chuck Mason and David L. Anderson,
Jr.; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his
daughter Elizabeth Baber and grandmother Ruby Funk. He was a very selfless man,
wonderful father, loving husband, doting son and caring brother. Bubba was a
fourth generation volunteer firefighter with Crozet Volunteer Fire Department.
He served 30 years with seven of those as Chief. He also served with the
Western Albemarle Rescue Squad. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2014 at
Rockgate Cemetery, Crozet, with Chaplain Tammy James officiating. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Crozet Volunteer Fire
Department and the Western Albemarle Rescue Squad. Shuttle service will be
available from Henley Middle School, 5880 Rockfish Gap Turnpike, Crozet, for
those attending the service.

This year the Crozet
Volunteer Fire Department Independence Day parade will be held at 5:00 P.M. on
Saturday, July 5, 2014. Lineup will begin at 4:00 P.M. at Crozet Elementary
School and end at Claudius Crozet Park.
The theme for the parade
will be, “Only in America” There will be field judging for Fire & Rescue
apparatus at Claudius Crozet Park after the parade. Awards will be presented at
8:00 P.M. Food, beverages, and other festivities to include a softball
game between the Crozet Volunteer Fire Department and the Peachtree Ball
Coaches will immediately follow the parade. Fireworks begin at dark.
If you would like to be a
part of the 2014 parade, please register at www.crozetfire.org/parade. Please submit your entry as soon as possible to ensure you are
included in the lineup.
Lineup will be based on a
first come basis. Horses/livestock will be placed near or at the end of the
parade. Please note the following:

is usually very hot in July, please make sure you/your group/organization stay
well hydrated throughout the parade route.

The CVFD Spring "CASH" RAFFLE will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014. Grand prize is $16,000. After taxes the winner will receive $11,520. There will also be 9 cash consolation prizes. Only 400 tickets to be sold, tickets are $100.00 each. Tickets can be purchased at ArborLife in Crozet, Monday - Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or from any Crozet Volunteer Fire Department member.

At the CVFD Annual Awards Banquet, members said goodbye to Captain Mark Carlson, who recently accepted a job in the mid-west. Captain Carlson has been an innovative leader since he came to Crozet almost ten years ago and will be missed by all. On behalf of the CVFD, we wish you the best on your new journey.
